Alaska is a magnificent destination that boasts unparalleled natural beauty and unique wildlife. It is also a destination with extreme seasons, where temperatures can range widely between months and sightseeing options are varied depending on the time of year.

When planning your Alaskan adventure, it is very important to plan your trip around the time of the year that will allow you to do the things you want to do most. Want to see a bear? Go in the summer and fall. Want to see the Northern Lights? Go in the winter.

Every winter, thousands of visitors flock to interior Alaska to witness the sky come alive. The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, is one of the most spectacular natural phenomena on Earth, but is only visible at extremely northern latitudes. Much of Alaska falls within the realm that can see the lights, but some areas give you much better odds of catching Lady Aurora in all of her glory.

The beautiful state of Alaska is the only place in the entire United States where all three bear species – polar, black, and brown – can be found. 

In Alaska and the Arctic in general, polar bears can be found as far south as St. Lawrence Island, with occasional appearances on St. Matthew Island and the Kuskokwim Delta in wintertime.
